Benjie Slaton - Lead Pastor
Benjie and Natalie Slaton first discovered a love for Chattanooga as undergraduates working at camps on Lookout Mountain and have been returning ever since. They married after college and have served Jesus’ church in various places. Benjie has served as the RUF Campus Minister at the University of Texas, and as a pastor in two churches in Austin and San Antonio. Both churches were recent church plants and sent out church plants. Seeing new churches born is something the Slatons love and have a passion to see happen here in Chattanooga.
The Slaton family brings a love for Chattanooga born out of years of traveling to the area for camp and friendships. So, Chattanooga has always felt like a home away from home. They have three children, two dogs and an unhealthy love for good tacos. The entire family is excited to live here and be a part of the work God is already doing in Chattanooga.
Kyron Walker - Music Director
Kyron grew up in a small military town in Ingleside, TX, and was raised by his African American grandmother and his Caucasian grandfather who were both Naval officers. In 2004, Kyron experienced a culture shock due to moving from his comfortable middle-class lifestyle in a small town to a larger city living in poverty with his mom, stepdad, and siblings in San Antonio, TX. Kyron’s drastic life changes caused him to deeply reflect on identity, culture, and the Gospel. Thankfully, God also led him to his high school sweetheart and wife of 10 years, Krystal Walker. God has blessed them with three wonderful children Aylissa (10), Kyron Jr.(6), and Kylee Kasey (3).
Kyron has played the keyboard for 12 years and his love for music goes back to the days of laying on his grandma’s couch listening to the musical stylings of Kool and the Gang, Shania Twain, and Jay-Z. When he isn’t playing the keyboard in church or elsewhere, he can be found “just chillin’ with the fam” at the movies, writing songs/making beats, or checking out a new restaurant. He is a recent graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio. He plans to further his studies at Reformed Theological Seminary in 2020. Along with Pastor Benjie, Kyron will help direct and oversee the music ministry of Grace+Peace by preparing music that is Christ-Centered, culturally eclectic, and beautifully expressive.
Mandi Johnson - Ministry Director
Mandi doesn’t like the spotlight. She prefers to work behind the scenes to help big things happen. And with Mandi, big things happen. But, sometimes you need to know who’s at work helping it all go well. So her husband Pete wrote her bio to introduce you to her you.
Mandi Leigh first came to Chattanooga to attend Covenant College where she studied counseling and sociology and met her dashing husband, Peter. After graduating from Covenant and getting married the same day, Mandi Leigh served communities throughout Georgia as a social worker, counselor in mental health, and board member for a pregnancy center. Four additions, Drew, Logan, Peyton, and Carter, brought career changes for Mandi Leigh as she focused her efforts on raising and homeschooling their children. The Johnson’s also decided that there was nowhere in the country that they would prefer to raise their kids more than Chattanooga. In 2007 they returned, ultimately settling in Collegedale. Mandi Leigh continued to serve her community through founding and serving as the initial Director for the Classical Conversation of East Brainerd homeschool program. She has served the church in various leadership roles in women’s ministry over the years.
